The Dore Dozen race route takes in some of the Peak Districts breathtaking scenery including Blacka Moor and Totley Moor. The route goes over varied terrain including road, track, and footpaths through woodland and open moorland. This is a tough race with two big climbs, fast descents and fabulous views overlooking Sheffield.
All money raised will be used for the playground rejuvenation at Dore recreation ground.
The Dore Dozen race is pre-entry and can be entered on the day if the entry limit of 150 runners hasn’t been reached.
The race starts at 11am prompt on Sunday 12th July 2020. Registration will be open from 9:30am-10: 30am at Dore Old School, Savage Lane, S17 3GW.
Once registered there is a short walk up Townhead Road to Dore Recreation Ground, Townhead Road, S17 3GE. On race day there will be toilets and a place to leave your bag at registration. No muddy shoes are allowed inside Dore Old School.
The race starts and finishes from Dore Recreation ground, which is located just off Townhead Road, S17 3GE. On race day there is limited parking so please car share. Please park at either Dore Moor Garden Centre, Hathersage Rd, S17 3DQ but do not block the entrance,Dore Club, Townhead Road, S17 3GA or Dore Old School, Savage Lane, S17 3GW.

All runners MUST remain on the paths designated on the route map and abide by the instructions given at the start of the race and by marshals along the route. This is a fixed route race as required by the race license issued by the Eastern Moors Partnership and Natural England. Any runner not abiding to the indicated route will be disqualified. Not sticking to the indicated route will put future races in jeopardy.
Please make sure that you arrive in plenty of time to park, register, have your kit checked and collect your race number.
Pre-entered runners should collect their numbers at Dore Old School between 9:30am – 10:30am on the day of the race.
We have a race limit of 150 runners this year. If this number hasn’t been reached then we will allow runners to enter on the day. Please check website nearer the race. Runners entering on the day must have completed their registration form and had their kit checked by 10:30am. You must neither start the race using a number obtained in someone else’s name nor give your number to someone else to use in the race.
The Race Route Description
The race starts and finishes at the Dore Recreation Ground. The route will be marshaled and marked / flagged on the day.
From the start at the rec turn right onto Townhead road and head out of the village down Whitelow Lane and turn left on Shorts lane. Continue to the right at the bottom of Shorts Lane to begin the Blacka Moor trail, with the stream on your left pass the steppingstones (do not cross over them). Continue a short distance to the signpost and turn right over a small wooden footbridge and start and the first big climb up to Devils Elbow Gate, at the signpost towards the top, the path continues all the way up to the gate at top of Piper House Gate CP1.
Continue on the path up to the car park at the top of Blacka Moor by Hathersage road. A short section on the path follows Hathersage Road round to the left onto Stony Ridge Road and then pick up a path to the left which cuts out part of the Stony Ridge Road and brings you further down the road to CP2 at the gate.
Through the gate and follow the grass path which, is rutted in places to Totley Moor and carry straight onto old Moss Road, which then curves round to the left. Continue down hill to the lower gate on Moss Road CP3.
Once through the gate there is a fast and long decent following the track down to the gate at the end of Strawberry Lee Lane CP4.
There is a short and steep climb up to the bench near Lenny Hill, at the bench take a left and follow the main path up. Take the second footpath sign on the right and follow though some small trees, the path goes on to open moorland. Continue along the footpath and bear right at the next signpost, follow the path down to a small wooden footbridge and cross the stream. Follow the faint path up and turn right onto the flagged stoned path. Follow the stoned path to the next signpost and turn left onto a grassy path and then turn right going downhill, which takes you to the steep and rocky decent down Piper House Gate.
CP5 is the lower Piper House Gate and then follow the steep track down and past the stepping-stones on your right. This track takes you back up onto Shorts Lane and from here you follow the road turning right at the end onto Whitelow Lane, over the bridge and up the final road climb back into the village before turning left into the rec for the finish.
Checkpoints are marked on the map; runners must stick to the indicated route and pass all checkpoints in numerical order.

After the Race
There will be refreshments and cake back at registration in the Dore Old School. Please leave your muddy shoes outside the building. Prize giving will be between 12:45pm-1pm. Look forward to seeing you then.
